Lord, Help Us Now
I gave birth to a beast.
My 13 year old is 5'9" and growing fast.
Fast.
My 13 year old is 5'9" and growing fast.
Fast.
He is also a swimmer. Two hours a day, every day. Even Sunday. Even Thanksgiving. Even New Years' Eve and yes, Virginia, 4th of July too.Consequence?
We ate teriyaki last night immediately after swimming. The Kid was trembling. Kid could not wolf food down fast enough. He then ate half of Li'l man's plate of rice, teriyaki chicken, and fries.
Then he moved on to PB.
"Are you going to eat that?"
He points to the food she actively is forking into her mouth. She balks as he tries to snag a few misbegotten bites.
She finally acquiesces and like that {{poof}} it is gone.
The Tasmanian Teriyaki Devil has hit again!
I hand over my credit card with a sigh.
He orders another entree. More chicken, two scoops of rice with salad. His second large, adult-sized entree. The wait staff looked at us with a bit of crazy stink eye.
What? It's not like there is even an ounce of fat on the Kid's body? He's lean, slightly muscular, and all legs and awkward elbows.
He is a swarm of locusts in the form of a very skinny teenager with huge hands and feet that foretell a very tall future. His appetite cannot be quenched.
Yes, it's come to that.
I am mother to a two entrees are not enough teenager.
That buzz about Michael Phelps and calories? They are so not kidding.
I foresee our credit cards bills continuing to mount with no end in sight, my friends.
Sigh.

5 Witty Comments For Me:
See, things like this make be glad to be short and married to a short man and have kids who look like they're going to be small too!
My cousin is 17 and is 6'5" and still growing. His parents have a similar problem to yours, they can't keep enough food in him. He's skinny skinny! I'm 5'1" and round... can't imagine!
Finally something domestic I know about, oh yay!
Sweet potatoes and couscous are what you need for the after-sports meltdowns. They are superior carbs and there is something in them/about them that slays the beast. Plus you can make them both in advance.

I found a link for the Top 5 Super Foods. I know you guys must know a lot about this already but I thought I'd post the list because some of them, like the sweet potatoes, are not what you'd think!

Hey Sis, now I know why my boys are going to be short!!! (Besides the fact my psycho ex-wife is a near midget... ...although taller that my newbie COOOOL wifey)...
I DONT FEED 'EM!!!!
Heh heh heh
That also explains why my FAT-ASS is pushin' 265??? Not funny now...
I feel your pain...I have a 15 yr old son (running man)and an 11 yr old daughter (super gymnast). When we go to McDonald's (very rarely), my kids are ordering the double quarter pounder meals with the large drink and fries; and my husband and I are getting the Kids Happy Meals.
I see these little old couples come into the restaurant I work at and share a sandwich and now I know why...they had to teach themselves to eat less because their kids were vacuuming it all up! LOVE YOUR BLOG!!!
