Headache (!)
As the title suggests, I have them.
Usually migraines with zig-zaggety lines and words upside down that register hours before as as warning. Painful, but an infrequent visitor thrice a year.
But, lately, it's different.
Very different.
But, lately, it's different.
Very different.

Saturday, I was woken up by the most splitting headache in my entire life. It felt like an axe striking through my forehead and cleaving it in two. Worse than any migraine I have ever had bar none. I could have sworn it was a stroke.
Thanks be to CG for bringing cool wash clothes, pain meds., water, and being there to hear me moan and sob all night then taking the kids bleary-eyed to AM swim practice.
The next day I was groggy, my eyes burned, and I felt hungover. My head felt tender, but I survived. Beaten. On the Couch. All day.
Sunday?
Deja Vu.

Sheer agony woke me from a sound sleep at 4 AM. A hot poker behind my right eye and again the axe-murdered syndrome. CG said he knew one was coming because my breathing changed in my sleep and woke him up first.
My friends? Worse than labor. Yes, my friends, coming from a mama that had a 10 lb. baby, I still say WORSE THAN LABOR. It lasted for an hour.
It left me feeling bruised, afraid to sleep, and with burning eyes.
I reached out to friends on Facebook. I researched on line.
Believe me I'm Dr. Google with the rest of them. I quickly diagnosed myself as having cluster headaches otherwise known as suicide headaches. I was sure the doctor's appointment I scheduled was a mere formality.
Who needs a friggin' medical degree when you have Google.
My doctor friends also from Google University chimed in on Facebook .
{Hi Helen}
Another friend agreed. Many expressed concerned.
Friends, Facebook is sometimes not your friend.
I was told to not be alarmed BUT get to an ER STAT for ct scan. Heh. Something about:
"Sudden, severe headache that is worse than any headache the patient has ever had is the classic red-flag for subarachnoid bleed; however, it can also occur with cerebral sinus thrombosis, arterial ... See Moredissections, and idiopathic intracranial hypertension. Monitor these patients with pulse oximetry, watch blood pressure and ECG closely, establish intravenous access, and obtain an emergency head CT. Elevate the head"
Yikes, second opinions are a bitch! Heh!
I diagnosed through my keyboard on FB that if my brain was bleeding, the headache wouldn't have been intermittent. Call me Google Neurologist, bitch. Hee!
Dr. Helen concurred.
So today, I went to doctor. she was concerned. Very concerned. She said these can be hints of what is to come. She ordered a MRI and MRA just to get a baseline and, "To rule out anything out of the usual."

On lab slip, it said "Tumors and aneurysms."
Fuck! Tumors and aneurysms??? Sounds like sub arachnoid bleed.
Officially alarmed.
Touche, Helen, touche. You are the best Google Neurologist on the planet.
I'll keep you posted...

Holy SHit! I hope you find comfort soon....theheadaches subside, and you get answers!
Keep us posted!
Whoa. I hope you find out what's going on with you.
Thanks ladies.
Awaiting results of MRI and MRA.
58 minutes stuck into a can of claustrophobia and kept my cool. didn't open my eyes once. If I didn't open my eyes, then the can of claustrophobia can't exist, right?
I told the techs that I was crossing my fingers for cluster headaches. They said I was the first that ever wished that. I said better than tumors and aneurysms.
Keeping positive. :)

This time I hope I am wrong. However, the words "worst headache I've ever had" are the ones I googled, because I remembered those are the danger words. I didn't Google your symptoms. That's why I had a different diagnosis. :)
Suffered with them for years. You will be okay. I'll bet in the end they will be undiagnosed cause cluster headaches.
Finally when menopause comes and your hormones drop you will stop having them and it will be a miracle.
8 years of them and now I am free. Not all were killer bad but a good many were.
whoa that sucks. I'm sorry and I hope you feel better soon and get some positive answers. I know I'm making another Dr. Google out of myself ;P but I also wondered about the ^^estrogen connection, given your other health problems.

Here I am, too busy enjoying the trolls eating each other on your last post - I'm so sorry about this scare. I hope you receive good news very soon.
I concur on the hormone points above - how I once had to take my temp to determine when I could get pregnant, I now could tell you within the hour, thanks to my left eye and creeping wavey lines. Too bad I'm done having kids.
Hang in there. You're in my thougts.
Have just trawled through my reader and found your posts. Shit, I hope you're okay. You've probably had results by now, or maybe not. No idea what doctors are like in the US, they are crap in the UK. Hope you're feeling better. I get 'atypical' migraines. The eye flashing stuff for about an hour but no headache. Guess I'm lucky. Wish you well.
Anything new? I hate this for you.
Hi - as soon as I read your post I wondered if it was cluster headaches, very treatable if you have the correct medicine at hand.
Any updates? I noticed you haven't been on twitter either. Hope all is well with you and yours.
Hey Scout - it really does sound like clusters. My brother has suffered from them for 20 years, and they are not easily treated (even though the above poster says they are). If you truly have them, you should try to find a doc that specializes in clusters and understands. They would not be called "suicide headaches" if they were so easily cured. I sincerely hope that these are not clusters!
Far be it from me to minimize your cluster headaches. I hope thats not what you got from my comment.
My experience with them was an old boyfriend who suffered for several years, was diagnosed with cluster headaches, and finally was prescibed a medicine called.. caffergot (spelling atrocious I know) I think? something like that. He felt one coming on, took it and they went away.
I suffer from migaines myself and wouldn't wish them on anyone anywhere.
I do hope you're feeling better soon.
