A Conservative Mother & Gun Control? Get Out!
As a conservative, I believe in the right to bear arms.
Vehemently.
I feel that it is an integral right in this country that should never be abolished.
Likewise my fellow former Army officer husband feels just as strongly.
Gun control tends to annoy us.

However, it also enrages me as a mother when I hear a child was shot and fatally wounded by a police officer.
How could they?
How hard is it to tell the difference between a water gun and a Glock?
How could they?
How hard is it to tell the difference between a water gun and a Glock?
And these:
There is absolutely no reason weapons should ever, ever look like this:
This is beyond wrong. When you can find colors like Lavender, O' Sherbet, and Sunburst on weapons?
Police Officers now must make split decisions with great peril to themselves to decide if a young preteen is carrying something that will take his life or just squirt him in the face or shoot a Nerf foam bullet.
Of course, self-preservation dictates he choose himself.
Did I mention my grandfather was a police officer?
Never, ever should weapons look like these.
My husband pointed out there is even a real blue Glock with all it's parts painted blue that looks very similar to the safety blue designed for law enforcement and military training weapons.
As a mother, I say this needs to stop. As a granddaughter of a law enforcement officer, I say this needs to stop. As a conservative? I say these need to be banned.

Real guns **should** look like real guns and toy guns like toys. Ban "designer" colors and decorations on real guns? DEFINITELY!!!!
Sigh.
Why does everything have to get more complicated the older I get? There is ABSOLUTELY NO FARKING REASON anyone should have a Hello Kitty AK (or whathaveyou). How are my kids supposed to feel safe playing Nerf Wars in the front yard when there are REAL weapons like these around? Our neighbor is a police officer...a good one at that, but having to make the call between one of these ridiculous looking weapons and a real one on a dark night in a suspicious circumstance is not a job I'd ever want to have.
This is completely unfair - and nobody wins in this situation. Except maybe the idiot who painted the guns in the first place, but then again, they're probably too high on shocking pink fumes to care.
Sad. :(
I totally agree with everything you've said.
No one wins. So sad.
Oh that's scary. Really scary. How are we supposed to teach our kids how to respect what guns can do and how to properly use them if they so choose if they look like something you can buy at Claire's?! The people who designed those things should be slapped.
OMG, I had no idea they made real guns that look like toys...definitely WRONG. Thanks for posting this..people need to know.
Good Lord - WHY WHY WHY????? Who's the genius who approved THAT?
Definitely ban the "cute" colors. There's nothing about the right to bear technicolor arms in the Constitution.
Crazy! I had no idea. Should be banned for sure. Police have a hard enough job as it is. And what kind of mind wants a Hello Kitty gun? The phrase 'sh*t for brains' is coming to the fore but I am successfully stifling it. :)
I don't have issues with guns, my issue is with the idiots.
Personally, I think you've got it wrong. I know this is the internet, and my opinion doesn't matter all that much and you've got the right to moderate things, and i'm definitely WAAAY less familiar with the military and law enforcement.
But i'm also a staunch conservative.
And I detest when people say things should be banned.
Lets face it: lots of cops are idiots. Not all of them, but alot of them. Just look at basically any taser incident, the cop that beat the crap out of a mexican for no reason. Lots of cops think they can do whatever they want, because they have a badge. And they do. And when they do stuff, they protect their brothers, and don't fire the trigger-happy scum that just abused his power as a protector of the law.
The problem is not the guns that look like toys, its the trigger happy cops. Personally, I think they need to be reined in. After all, in this case, the customer is always right: If I want to buy a gun with a pretty design on it, then by god its my right to buy it if someone is selling it. Hell, if i want to customize my own gun that way, then it is my right. Thats the thing about the free market, the beautiful thing about capitalism: If someone owns it, they should be able to do what they want to it.
Now, you're probably thinking "Reining in cops? thats the OPPOSITE of what i want!" but consider this: If, just an idea, we privatized police forces, let private security companies take over, and gave them the same legal jurisdiction if they catch someone who has broken a law, then think of how much more productive that would be? Say i'm a small business owner, i can hire a security company to send a patrol car by my shop every hour. Say i'm in a Home Owners Association: We can hire regular patrols! Say i'm a Municipality? I can hire security companies for competitive (and low!) prices, to keep the streets safe!
Now imagine how much money would be saved if THAT happened? Imagine how many lives would be saved if a company would go out of business whenever they murdered someone for no good reason? Imagine how much crime could be prevented if cops served as an actual deterrent rather than the people that escort you to court after someone is dead?
Banning colorful guns solves nothing. It just makes it harder to get a colorful gun. But they'll still exist.
And people will still die.
