Giveaway: Not By The Hair of My Chinny-Chin-Chin

Approaching 40 is a bitch. It simply is.

Body parts are simply not as bouncy as they once were. Roots turn a suspicious glittery silver. And no, not the vampire silver kind. More gun metal gray.

No, not Anderson Cooper and George Clooney, rawr. Think Frau Hilda Frumapus. Think Coach Beast. More indignity? I've been finding rogue branches on my chin, my friends. Let me repeat that.

On. my. chin. As in a dark, ant-leg looking alien beings in the style of the wicked witch.

This. Will. Not. Stand.

I considered burning the little f#$%ers to the ground. I considered laser treatment. I considered acid.

In the end, a product sent to me in the mail saved my skin in my apocalyptic hair removal panic. To be honest, depilatory creams scare me. They've scared me ever since the seminal moment in middle school everyone seems to have when they think Nair is a good thing. Then, since more is better, you leave it on too long and realize having skin, not burning, bumpy-WTF-did-I-do-to-my-legs-skin moments, is something to be valued.

So I admit, I was nervous when I was chosen by Olay and BlogHer to try out their New Olay Smooth Finish Facial Hair Removal Duo. They told me it was a uniquely formulated, two-step system designed to gently, yet effectively, remove unwanted facial hair, leaving skin smooth, conditioned, and visibly hair free.

The Skin Guarding Balm, applied before the removal cream, actually did hydrate my skin and guess what? No irritation, redness, nor other tell-tale signs that I'd just been boiled in acid like other hair removal creams.

Better yet? No branch coming out of my chin. Thank you, Olay. You saved my womanly pride. Feeling less Coach Beast and more girlie girl without the log in my chin.

Now if only there was something for those silvers in all the wrong places...

In the meantime, you'll find me rocking out to Pandora's 80's alternative mix-something my kids call "the oldies." Yep, feeling older than dirt but now way more feminine thanks to Olay.

What's cheering me up is I get to pass on some love to my readers. Yes, you!!

Leave me a comment or tweet commiserating with me with your own hair-in-all-the-wrong-places stories to be entered to win a $50 VISA gift card, courtesy of BlogHer and Olay.

I'm Spanish so I'm therefore, hairy. My husband is Portuguese and he is, what else?, hairy, too. It's a little embarrassing but we've learned that we'd rather have hair than be bald.

I use cream hair remover on my face once every 2 weeks.

Being a guy, maybe it's not so bad, but when you see this funky black hair growing out of your ear, you get a little worried. It's definitely a WTF moment.

Picture this; shaving inside your ear with a disposable razor! :)

BTW, 40 ain't bad at all. I'm in my fifties now. All sorts of things stop functioning properly! (Nooo, I'm talking about my knees!)

oh yeah, logs on chin are very annoying. glad to know that product works..I looked at it, but kept moving. will reconsider. Watch out for rogue side burn hairs too! they seem to sprout without warning.

I hate facial hair. Its funny that I read this because seriously not 10 minutes ago I was again plucking out these dark hairs from my face!!
I have some slight fuzz around my face but then I get these loose dark long strands on my cheeks and on my chin.
I hate that!!
Uh.... I am so paranoid of the hairs on my chin. I find myself constantly rubbing the area checking over and over.

I usually visit a spa every few weeks to remove facial hair. It's costly and often, I break out in a rash for a day or two after. I'd really love to give this a try.
Thanks so much.

Remember high school? Yeah, the days when a zit no one could see but you, could ruin a day? I was cursed with the hairy gene from my dad's family. Oddly enough, only the women seem to have it. Well, my junior year, I noticed a very faint mustache starting to form. I knew I had to nip it and nip it fast. On a Sunday afternoon-before a school day, I decided to use a very well known cream. I thought the tingling, burning sensation was normal. I followed the instructions, rubbed the hair away, applied the "cooling lotion," which set my upper lip on fire and actually BURNED the area from my nose to just above the corners of my mouth. The area scabbed over-night and I called in to school the next day- for a week I had to use the excuse that I was "allergic" to nasal spray the doctor had prescribed. To this day, I fight the hair. On my chin, upper lip and of course, the sideburns. I panic when I can't find my favorite pair of tweezers. I don't want to turn 40 next year and have a 5 o'clock shadow.

As I'm getting older I've noticed the hair above my upper lip is getting darker--I'm so afraid to wax because it may grow back darker!

I used a cream on my upper lip once, and it totally gave me a rash. Worse, this was the weekend before my internship started so I went the whole first week wearing concealer on my entire upper lip!

Wow! When I read your post it related to me in so many ways! I really felt like I wrote this! You gave me some giggles in between haha! Since I'm getting older I could have never imagined the hairs that would show up in so many unusual places! My hubby & daughter are always making fun of me saying I have a mustache! It's really embarassing because they do it when we're out in the public somewhere. I have dark hair so it makes it even worse! I've used all those painful hair removal products and have always left it on longer than I should. I'm currently scared of using them, because it basically ate into my skin. I guess that's why I have my embarassing mustache at the moment! Plus, I have branches growing on my chin too that I'm always plucking! GRR! I swear it's like I'm trying to grow a tree they pop up so often! I'm really interested in trying this new product! Thanks for the opportunity & introducing me to it!

OMg I have to try this! I have these awful, dark, wiry hairs that pop up from time to time on my chin. I lovingly call them my "hag whiskers" and am always on surveillance screening for them and plucking them out! So embarrassing! Why do I get them? I'm only 35! lol

My "too much hair" is very minimal and fine but I hate seeing it in a magnified makeup mirror. Once in a while, I'll use a depilatory, burn my skin and swear never to use it again. This new Olay product sounds like a much better choice.

I am very fair and never thought that this would happen to me! Alas, things changed when I hit my 30s. Dear Lord, my husband likes to tease me now. At first, I'd just put the creme on my face when he wasn't around, but then I said screw it and will do it while watching Top Chef...I actually enjoy watching him get all twitchy during my facial hair removal procedure.

Sadly, I have to get waxed eyebrows, upper lip and chin every few weeks. My worst hair experience, was when I decided to 'live naturally " and forgo the waxing. One of my students, tapped me on the shoulder and whispered in my ear, "Mrs Baum something is wrong , you are turning into a man! I think you might be getting a mustache!"

Yes, it is a miserable fate...it becomes like a winter forest on the chin. dark. stark. straight shoots. I am gaining as my 8 years younger hubby is losing. He laments as I do. Thank goodness we women have so many great companies "rooting" for us and developing products to save the day. Raising the last 3 of 6 kids, I can't afford the spa treatments and lasering. So I opt for whatever the drugstore shelves just for me! My secret fear, that when I am old no one will take the time to groom me and keep those shoots from finding their way, like bad weeds in the garden of old age h3ll. I made a pact with my 4 daughters, they have promised to color, to plaster lotion on and pluck and tuck and keep me smooth, even the mole on MY chinny chin chin.!

GAH! I'm 36 and growing a woman beard. It seems as if those ant legs spring out fully formed too, instead of growing gradually, one day BAM there they are.

Also, I've tried hair removal creams before. They remove my skin but the damn ant legs are still there waving hello.

Geez...just turned 44, but freakin hair growth on my upper lip has been rapidly becoming a problem since hitting 40! What the heck? My mother never told me about this?! So, bought one of those wax crock pots with the strips. I have 2 girls who are at the age that they can begin waxing and we have a waxing party it seems like every 2 weeks. It hurts like a 'mother'!! By the end of the waxing trauma, we each have tears in our eyes and red irritated skin around our mouths. So, this cream may be a possible solution!
