Another Reason to Crossfit: Honoring SGT Tommy MacPherson

Today at crossfit was  Hero Wod "TOMMY MAC" honoring Sgt. Thomas R. MacPherson. I rx-ed the#wod in 36:36 for this local Ft. Lewis hero who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The following statement is from Tommy’s former Platoon Leader…

“The whole thing with Tommy is that he embodies everything that’s right about Ranger Battalion. He held the position of Ranger Team Leader which is literally the tip of the spear. He was the consummate, quiet professional—he expected absolutely zero recognition for what he did. He loved his job because he was a born protector. He was perfectly content to carry out his life’s work under the cover of darkness, with his and his comrades’ actions to remain forever under the cloak of shadows. He died doing what he loved; protecting all of us. What stood out about Tommy the most was his maturity beyond his years. I believe it was the fact that he was the older brother of younger siblings, but like another Sgt. said “Tommy wasn’t one of those guys who joined the Army and grew into a man. He joined as a man and grew others.” He left behind his beautiful wife wife, Claudia MacPherson, and their son, Brayden.”

Sergeant Thomas R. MacPherson
Killed in action on October 12, 2012

Sgt. Thomas R. MacPherson, 26, was killed by enemy forces during a heavy firefight while conducting combat operations in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan. He was leading an assault against an enemy position when he was mortally wounded by small arms fire.

MacPherson was a team leader assigned to Company D, 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. He previously served one deployment to Iraq and this was his fourth deployment to Afghanistan.

MacPherson was born July 20, 1986 in Long Beach, Calif. and graduated from Los Alamitos High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in May 2007 and completed One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Ga., as an infantryman. After graduating from the Basic Airborne Course there, he was assigned to the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program also at Fort Benning.

MacPherson graduated from the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program and was then assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment in December 2007, where he served as a mortarman. After three years, he was assigned to Company D where he served as a Fire Team Leader.

His military education includes the Basic Airborne Course, Ranger Assessment and Selection Program, U.S. Army Ranger School, Infantry Mortar Leader’s Course, Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape Course (SERE), and the Warrior Leader Course.

His awards and decorations include the Ranger Tab, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and the U.S. Army Expert Rifle Marksmanship Qualification Badge.

As a Ranger, Sgt. Thomas R. MacPherson selflessly lived his life for others and distinguished himself as a member of the Army’s premier direct action raid force and fought valiantly as he served his fellow Rangers and our great Nation. RLTW.

Thank you for your service to our country, SGT Mac!

Death & Crappy Week-ends: Goodbye Sweet Mouse of Science & Hello Carpet Cleaner

Sad, sad day.

Baby Girl's second of three mice died.

Tears were abundant.

Cage was cleaned and disinfected.  The third remains very ill.

Coughing, hair loss, hunched over, shaking, weight loss.  We suspect URI. The first died a few month ago as a waltzing mouse with a possible URI.  The other two seemed fine a few days ago.

((Who knew one could get so attached to an 8th grade science experiment.))

For the record: I hate the circle of life.

Even more for the record: I don't do well with furry death and having to be the strong mommy when all I want to do is cry too?

Stinks!

Good news?  We have a distraction.  Two actually.  Houseguests!!  Furry houseguests courtesy of Rover.com.

One particular Golden Doodle named "Cathy" has taken quite  a liking to PB.  Yep, nothing like an exuberant puppy to distract one's sad mourning heart.

AHEM!

I would like to add though that between...

  •  Seb's poopy party around my island found at 5 AM (yes entire trail o' poo around the island),
  • Lulu the kitty's shitcidence on the white carpet at 6 AM,
  • Rex the Chihuahua's piddle accident in the bathroom at 12 PM,
  • Seb's second trail of poo down the garage steps and out the side door at 1 PM,
  • 8 Month olf Golden Doodle Cathy's two pee excitement accidents in the family room with same white carpet at 1:30 PM,
  • The mouse dying at 2 PM and subsequent mouse tank (and poo) cleaning
...It has truly truly been a SHITTY day.

Add Ginger the Cocker Spaniel's cat food binge resulting in an anal volcano around the same white carpeted dining room last week-end?

Yep, pretty crappy week-ends of late!

Also pretty concerned that Cathy's owners gave me instructions when they dropped her off  which include half a page of her preclusion to diarrhea and how to treat it.

OHHHHH CRAP!

Another BIG Reason to Crossfit

This. This is what I love about #crossfit .

Hero Wods. Local Ft. Lewis boys.

Confession? I really wasn't feeling it today. Tired. Ate very "dirty" over the #ifbc week-end.

So thank you Coach Cody for reminding the 10 AM class who this HERO wod was for–it helped me snap out of it and push deep!

Rx-ed the weight, banded the pull-ups and got her done in 26 min flat--all the while inspired by the 1st Sergeant & his family. LOVE HERO wods for this.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice U.S. Army First Sergeant Michael "Hammer" Bordelon.

Functional Fitness and Furry Family Members

Reason #  457,884 why I heart crossfit?Yep that's Seb. My dog. My companion. My love. Family member.

Today I did almost 4 hours of crossfit including 30 each of  heavy clean&jerks, burpees, atomic sit ups, slam balls, plate burpees, barbell roll outs then another 100 burpees and 100 abmats for good measure and then tonight?

Lots of squat snatches, front snatches, back squats then Fran #wod which is as many reps in 5 min. I got 21 reps and then 15 reps each of banded pull ups and 26# double kettlebells thrusters. Then 2 min max calorie row.

Back to Seb?

Seb isn't doing well again.

He stayed upstairs--no food or potty breaks--until 5 PM today. At first I thought he was just sleepy and then I  realized he couldn't get up. His back legs are fried and semi-paralyzed and now his front shoulder is screwy.

He is a contorted limping hot mess.

So after all that crossfit, I still had plenty left in the tank. I scooped up my now 70 lb friend of 16 years and with ease carried him up and down the stairs today.

No problem.

Now I am banging my head on the wall why I have had him even attempt stairs when I can carry him.

I will happily carry you, my furry friend. Let me pay you back for all the years of being the perfect pillow to absorb my tears. The wagging tail to make me smile immediately upon entering the front door. My shadow and protector. I love you!

Thank you crossfit for helping me to help him. Truly functional fitness!

Getting My Hairs Done: Hazel Salon & Organics #Seattle

Okay, I cannot say how excited to get my hairs done tomorrow! I am sooo super ecstatic for the opportunity to get a hair transformation with Hazel Salon in Seattle just in time for the International Food Bloggers Conference.

Even better? They only use organic products and they were voted best of Seattle in 2012!

It has literally been a year since I cut my own hair.  Yes, I cut my own hair in frustration, don't you? It's been about two or three since it's been professionally cut, colored and highlighted.

So any suggestions for when I go to Hazel's tomorrow?

Maybe this...without the wreath of course!!

Or how about this? Gotta get my Mad Men on, right-o?

Source

Heh this? Always a classic!

Source

Definitely this, right?

Source

Stay tuned for an opportunity to win a mini-makeover of your own, m'kay? I go in tomorrow. Squee!  In the meantime, what should I do with my cave girl hair?

Seriously send me suggestions, pretty please!!

It's Official: My Husband is a Cat Lady

Shhh don't tell anyone but my hubs CG apparently is a cat lady...

...at least according to Klout!!

Haha!

The cat he resents me getting for my girl as a bribe?

Yep UPS man delivered a Merrick Pet Care bistro box replete with adorable table cloth, yummy chicken pate, even a bamboo serving fork and collar with bling.

All for LULU.

I get coffee kloutperks ...

He gets kitty fewd.  I do not believe he has EVER tweeted, instagrammed or even blogged about Lulu the wunderkitty.

Not sure what this says about his social media influence?? Maybe they think he has a palate for kitty pâté?

Meow !!

Either way, our picky Lulu loved it and says thank you!! I love the natural ingredients!

Now the question is will CG taste the this food like he tastes our dog food? I feel a kitty food challenge coming on...

Straps, A$$crackery & The Hunt for the Rare Red and White Zebra

Ahem...when you are a lily white Seattlite who ne'er sees the sun and you decide to garden from 1-3 PM in the hot sun?

Pro Tip #1: Please for the love of Pete really think about your strap choices, m'kay?

Pro Tip #2: Also when your tank top rides up on the back? Pull it down quickly or you'll end up with a smile above your a$$crack.

Call me a red and white zebra...

Parenting Myths Debunked and Thousand Dollar Espresso Machines

Up soo late figuring out kids competing club and high school swim practices with kid #3's football practices and carpools and games and meets and class schedules and curriculum nights  and syllabi and SATs registration and..

Oh my! My head is spinning again.

Remember when your kids were toddlers and you thought it would get easier once they hit school?

Nope! Myth!  Know what happens instead?

You realize a $1000 espresso machine is a fantastic investment because you practically mainline the stuff at a rate ten times greater than when you were in college.

Just please tell me it gets easier once they are off in college? Pretty please? Ok just lie to me.

No more stress, worry, financial strain?

Yep, right!  I thought so.
